A symbol of a key or lock will appear on the lower bar of the applicant's screen in Netscape or Microsoft's Internet Explorer. When the key is broken or the lock is open, the applicant is not in a secured session. Likewise, if the key is not broken or the lock is latched, then it is a secured session.
